The Offshore got a rough start same as the Royal Oak. Emmanuel Gueit, the designer of the Royal Oak Offshore, presented his first drawings to AP CEO Georges-Henri Meylan in 1989. The idea was to design a Royal Oak for younger consumers that would be called the Offshore. After studying the codes and specifications of the Royal Oak, Emmanuel decided to make it all bigger. And then he worked on details such as the crown protection, making the bracelet more curved etc. But the problem was inside; the case was so big and the movement quite slim. He found the solution by putting an antimagnetic cover around the movement. It was a fact to stay with the strong shapes created by Genta as a foundation. It was until 1993 when the first offshore was introduced and sold to the public. ( the very first pieces are produced in 1992 but sold to the public from 1993. For the collectors it is important to find a 1993 model with the original clasp which was replaced quickly after introduction. first pieces had the 2126/2840 movement which was also replaced by the 2226/2840 on later models.
